English for Work Abroad
Canada, the United States, Australia, Ireland, Great Britain, the Nordic countries – these are just a few of the countries to which you can travel to and enrich your career possibilities, experience and improve your material conditions. But how can you keep from getting lost in a foreign country, discuss employment terms with a potential employer, settle social issues or bank formalities of you aren’t confident in your foreign language skills? Or, if you have a natural talent with foreign languages, how can you make the best possible impression? How can you feel more confident using industry-specific terminology when preparing presentations or when simply hearing different accents of native English speakers in and outside the workplace?
What are the English for Work Abroad courses?
This summer, the Skrivanek Baltic Language School will offer one-month intensive courses for persons preparing for jobs abroad and who, depending on their level of knowledge prior to going abroad, would like to master the basics of the English language or supplement specific knowledge and skills.
What courses are available for which levels of knowledge?
Courses are dividend into three levels of knowledge: beginner (or with some preliminary knowledge), intermediate and advanced.

At the beginner level, students are able to master standard English phrases and vocabulary to make communication easier in airports, at banks, at a physician’s, when shopping and when working in the agriculture or service sector.
The intermediate level is ideal for persons who already know how to converse in English, but wish to supplement their vocabularies for several employment sectors, as well as wish to improve their communication skills in business English. Courses are available with both a local Latvian teacher and a teacher, who is a native speaker of English.
Levels of knowledge are divided in the following groups:
- beginner level (A1, A2);
- intermediate level (B1, B2);
- advanced level (C1, C2).
We offer courses with a British teacher for highly skilled professionals who want to gain international work experience and master specific language nuances.

How long do the courses run?
The one-month intensive English language courses meet Mondays through Thursdays and in morning and evening groups. One lesson runs 90 minutes or two academic hours.
How much do the courses cost?
The course fee for beginner and intermediate groups led by a local teacher is LVL 2.50 (VAT included) for one academic hour or LVL 74.48 for 30 academic hours (15 lessons).
The course fee for intermediate groups led by a native English speaking teacher is LVL 3.99 (VAT included) for one academic hour or LVL 119.79 for 30 academic hours (15 lessons). Flexible payment terms are available.
The course fee for advanced level groups or business English courses is LVL 3.99 (VAT included) for one academic hour or LVL 119.79 for 30 academic hours (15 lessons). Flexible payment terms are available.
